Central County Fire Department Interns....
The Central County Fire Department currently sponsors a Firefighter Intern and Firefighter Volunteer program.
The programs are designed to give individuals interested in a career as a Firefighter, a realistic look at the Fire Service and the different opportunities it provides.
The Central County Fire Department currently has four branches of the Intern/Volunteer Program; Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), Fire Prevention Bureau, Mechanic Division and Firefighter/ EMS.
Interns/Volunteers duties may include: riding along with an engine or truck company; working on specialized rescue projects; maintaining department apparatus; fire prevention assignments; and participating in fire department training.
The Intern Program is a work experience program that works in conjunction with the Community College’s Cooperative Education Program. It allows students to earn college credits for ride-along, administrative, hands-on skills experience and also the needed volunteer time for their California State Firefighter 1 Certificate.
Desirable qualifications for selection as an Intern Firefighter are: California Firefighter 1 certification, Emergency Medical Technician certification, Paramedic certification, and Fire Science classes.
Interns must work a minimum of 48 hours a month.
The Volunteer Program was implemented to give individuals who were not college students the opportunity to learn and gain firefighting experience.
